WB: Tell me a little bit about yourself.
ER: I am a wife and mommy to a 1 year old daughter and 4 year old son, living in Spring, Texas. I am a native of Northern California and when I came to Houston a few years ago to finish school at the University of Houston, I soon met my husband and all is history. I love fashion, interior design, and all things crafty.
WB: When did you fall in love with crafting?
ER: As a young girl, I developed a creative mind, thanks to my wonderful mother and aunt. Growing up, my mom would make handmade gifts for our birthday parties and for other special occasions. My aunt (mom’s sister) was a seamstress/dressmaker and I always enjoyed watching her make everything from women’s apparel and gowns, to costumes and window draperies. You name it, she could make it. Once I had kids of my own, the spark for crafting really bloomed again and it was like a breath of fresh air when I could let my mind run with fun and beautiful crafty ideas.
WB: Tell me a little about the history of Pretty with Sprinkles.
ER: I have always wanted to create a business of my own that would give me the freedom of sharing my creativity with others. So I established Pretty with Sprinkles, a shop where I could create handmade decor for special occasions, room decor or just because. I offer a large selection of paper pom-poms in an variety of sizes and colors, as well as silk blend flower and fabric pomander arrangements for weddings. I
also offer other crafty items, such as my Madison Flower Pens, which are absolutely beautiful as guest signing pens, unique groom’s boutonniere's, and decor accents that I will feature from time to time.
WB: Why did you choose to the name "Pretty with Sprinkles?"
ER: I enjoy making beautiful and pretty things and my favorite dessert are cupcakes. Since sprinkles on cupcakes are that finial touch to completing a yummy cupcake, I thought that “sprinkles” was the best way to describe what I wanted to offer to my clients. I wanted to create the best handmade products I could possibly provide and give my clients a little something extra to make their orders and experience even more special for them.
WB: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
ER: One of the best parts of my job is finding the color palettes and ideas that inspire my creations. One of the things that separate me from other decor shops, is that I draw my inspiration from everything. I look at fashion trends, magazines, art, the outdoors, people, and even get inspiration from my children. For my pom-poms, I like to see what colors are popular for the season and I like exploring various spaces
to see what color palettes I can create to accent each space.
WB: What are some of your favorite ideas or trends you are seeing for 2012 weddings?
ER: The new popular trend that I see for 2012 weddings are outdoor, garden, and rustic/shabby chic themed weddings. I absolutely love this new trend and I like how weddings can be more intimate, whimsical, and the bride and groom can add their personal touches to the wedding, while still having an elegant affair. In terms of colors, soft and pastel colors have become popular and I am finding more ivory, blush, light pink, peach and soft green colors being incorporated in the wedding color schemes for this spring and summer.
WB: What can a bride expect when they place an order with Pretty with Sprinkles?
ER: The sales process at Pretty with Sprinkles is very easy and always provide the
best customer service I possibly can with my shop. I understand the importance of a bride’s special day and I want to ensure that her experience with my shop is very welcoming and as stress free as possible.
For my pom-poms, I offer a large variety of colors and sizes that will fit with any wedding color scheme. With all my pom-pom listings, a client is welcome to substitute colors that will work best with their color scheme, making my listings very accommodating. Since every wedding is different, I offer custom order requests and I work closely with the bride or event planner to pick the perfect arrangement for the wedding. I also love offering suggestions, different options, and insight to help a bride determine the type of pom-pom arrangement she is trying to achieve.
The same practice goes with my flower and fabric pomanders. I use silk blend flowers that I hand pick myself to ensure that they look as gorgeous as they possibly can. I also help brides with choosing the right flowers that will fit their color scheme and help with any other questions they have regarding the decor for their special day. I like being right there in the planning process with my clients. So whether its a wedding, other special occasion or decorating a space in your home, each order is equally the same and just as important to me. All the special attention and detail. I give to my clients and products, truly sets me apart with other shops.
WB: Describe your dream wedding.
ER: Since my husband and I are still planning to have our dream wedding, I have a clear vision of how I picture it to be. I definitely want an intimate outdoor wedding that is simple and classic. So white, ivory, navy and grey would be my overall color scheme. An afternoon wedding would be perfect, as I want to celebrate after the ceremony with all our loved ones under the stars. Vintage white pom-poms will be strung under a beautiful tent to create a whimsical atmosphere with beautiful romantic lighting everywhere. We would also love to add our personal touch to the wedding, whether its through the reception decor or wedding favors. After receiving a fabulous dining experience with awesome live entertainment, the night would end with fireworks for all to enjoy.
WB: What is your best advice for a bride?
ER: Wedding planning can be an overwhelming process for any bride. I always remind brides to remember the significance of getting married and to keep the wedding planning a fun and exciting experience. We can easily become consumed in trying to make our wedding as perfect at can be, but the wedding doesn’t have to be 100 percent perfect to be gorgeous. If things become stressful, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Your loved ones are always there to help make your special day a success.
