It’s Valentine’s Day and chances are you are looking for a super
sweet + creative way to show your groom how much you love him. In the spirit of
all things Cupid-inspired, it’s only fitting to talk about how you will proclaim
your love in a special day on your wedding day.
Many couples are choosing to personalize their wedding by writing
their own vows. As long as it is fine with your officiant and future spouse, I
say go for it. Just make sure everyone is on the same page well in advance
before you put pen to paper.
1. Keep your vows short.
Your guests are there to show their support, and many probably love the romance
of a wedding. But, they do not want to hear a dissertation about your love and
future plans. Three minutes or less is a good rule of thumb for the vows portion of the ceremony and is guaranteed not to send your guests over the edge with a coma-inducing love pledge.
2. Beware of TMI (too much information).
When you choose to write your own vows, you have the creative license to make them
your own. Add a little humor, share a memory, or make a special pledge. Be
careful not to share details that are extremely intimate. In the same way, don’t
turn it into a stand-up comedy routine. Making light of a lifelong commitment
will suck the romance straight out of your ceremony.
3. Print, please.
Keep a clear, printed copy of your vows with the officiant or maid-of-honor, even if
you want to recite them from memory. The jitters and emotions of the day will
turn your brain to mush in a second! It is a very easy way to avoid what could be a very awkward situation!
Local Vendor Love!
I have to share with you a local creative I found on Etsy! I love this little heart garland and "I love you pennant" from Julie Romero of julielynndesign. The four colors of hearts are sewn together with red thread and the pennant is made from repurposed book pages and tied with twine. So sweet!
