Everything about the handmade wedding of Kent + Nicole will make you smile. Brent Shumaker Photography inspired us with his capturing of this New Waverly wedding, held in a little white church tucked away in the woods.
Kent and Nicole were raised in the same area in southeast Texas and had mutual friends for some time, but never remember meeting. The first time Kent actually approached Nicole was when he asked her to be his partner during the Chicken Dance at another wedding (which they did again at their own wedding!)
They were on vacation in Colorado when Kent proposed. From the beginning, they knew they wanted a “little white church” so on the drive back to Texas, they googled “little white church” and found Waverly Presbyterian Church. Once they stopped and actually saw the church in person, they knew it was the right place and would fit perfectly into their wedding theme of 20’s vintage. You really can find anything on Google.

Everything at the wedding was done by the couple and family. All the way to Kent making the swing and hanging frame. The car, a Ford Model T, was owned by a family friend. Everything was very personal and inviting. And the groomsmen were all brothers of Kent.
When the Model T arrived, the guys were immediately outside. The car definitely called for attention until it was time to head in for the arrival of the bride and bridesmaids. Kent headed in and had a private prayer with his family.

The reception hall had a slideshow going of old photos of Kent + Nicole, including their engagement photo from Colorado. After the cutting of the cake, they headed out to the covered area for the Father/daughter dance, first dance and the completion of the circle with the infamous Chicken Dance. It was hysterical with couples dancing around the circle and stopping in front of another couple to take over. What a fun, offbeat wedding + reception!
